How do I create and manage Teams in StrategyFrame?

This guide shows you, as a Company Admin, how to create teams in StrategyFrame, structure them hierarchically, assign users, and why teams play a central role for permissions, OKRs, and Project Portfolio Management.

Prerequisites

  • You must have Company Admin rights.
  • Access to the Administration menu in StrategyFrame.

Part 1: Creating a new team

  1. Navigate to the Administration menu in the left-hand navigation.
  2. Click on Teams.
  3. In the top right corner, click Create Team.
  4. Enter the required information for the team.
  5. The team is automatically assigned to your Company.
  6. (Optional) Assign a Parent Team or a Sub-Team to build up a hierarchy (see Part 2).
  7. Save the new team.

Part 2: Team hierarchies with Parent and Sub-Teams

Teams in StrategyFrame can be structured hierarchically. Using the Parent Team and Sub-Team fields, you can represent multiple levels — for example, to distinguish between Group and Region, or between CompanyArea, and Department.

Tip: A clean team hierarchy is especially important for OKR cascading. A top-level "Group Team" can serve as the highest level, with regional or departmental teams grouped beneath it.

Part 3: Assigning users to a team

Once a team has been created, you can assign users to it.

  1. In Administration → Teams, open the desired team.
  2. Go to the Users section.
  3. Click Assign User.
  4. Select the desired user and confirm the assignment.

Note: Users can also be assigned to a team directly when a new user is created. See the article "How do I create new users and add them to teams?".

Part 4: Why are teams so important?

Teams in StrategyFrame are not just an organizational label — they drive functionality and permissions in several areas:

A. Module activation

You can configure StrategyFrame so that only specific teams have certain modules activated. This allows you, for example, to clearly distinguish between leadership and employees, and to assign each group an appropriate scope of features.

B. Board permissions

For certain boards, permissions can be assigned directly at the team level. If a user is part of a team, they automatically inherit the permissions assigned to that team on the respective board. This significantly simplifies administration, as you no longer need to manage each user individually.

C. OKRs and Project Portfolio Management

Teams play a central role in OKR and Project Portfolio Management (PPM):

  • Objectives and Key Results are assigned to teams.
  • Projects and Action Packages are also managed at the team level.
  • OKR cascading follows the team hierarchy — this is why clean Parent / Sub-Team relationships matter.

Important: Without an assigned team, OKRs cannot be saved in either the OKR tool or the OKR-PPM tool. See also the article "How to Set Up and Work with OKRs in StrategyFrame".
